From Douro valley to Galicia, Santiago de Compostela

Due to some bad weather incoming from the Atlantic, I decided to speed up and head North. I connected to the EN22 scenic stretch between Pinhão and Peso da Regua. I must admit though, I was more impressed by pressing on the fantastic IC5, 120km/h, sun in the face, epic bridges, bulging landscape, hills, moutains, rivers and no traffic. Then connecting via the N212 via Alijo (so nice villsge), the N322-3 small, narrow, through tiny villages leading me down, and showing the vineyards from uphill. A good and comprehensive introduction to the context at the Miradouro Vale de Mendiz.

Pinhão was smaller than expected and setup for wine tourism. I can imagine it’s packed during season. I didn’t get so many good pictures unfortunately.

So I pressed on to Santiago de Compostela, another 2.30 hrs. Beautiful wheather, except for the last 40 minutes when the rain poured down. I took a rest in Ourense but decided to endure and eventually when I rolled in to Santiago de Compostela 18.30, the sun smiled at me again! 🤗.

Santiago..blue skies..

I stayed at a city hotel – ”Neststyle”…something. Everything was tiny, even the towels, but after s tasty tomato sallad (the are the best in Spain) a good night sleep, I pushed onwards, leaving Galicia, to enter Asturia.
